| 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful:  Chopin at his absolute best, By This review is from: Comp Edition (Audio CD) Comp Edition For those who enjoy piano music, this edition put out by Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft is superb.All the recordings, executed by famous artists, most of which were made a number of years ago, have been re-worked by DDG to bring them up to modern standards of sound quality, making this edition a first-rate complete album of Chopin's work. 17 CDs in all, plus a booklet detailing Chopin's life and work, make this a magnificent album for one's CD library as well as a lovely gift for that special person who also enjoys good music. And the cost is phenomenal! 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful: A bargain with some classic performances, By This review is from: Comp Edition (Audio CD) Here are the highlights for me from three Chopin Prize winners: (1) Etudes Op 10 & 25 with Pollini, (2) Ballades with Zimerman, (3) Preludes with Blechacz, (4) Scherzi with Pollini, (5) Sonatas 2 & 3 with Pollini. Pollini (1960), Zimerman (1975) and Blechacz (2005) all won the Chopin Prize at age 18. Blechacz won all the major prizes in 2005. I don't particularly like Zimerman's newer version of the concerti, but he has many admirers. Pires plays the nocturnes and Ashkenazy the waltzes. Ugorski plays the polonaises. But the delivery time a bit too long. When you think about the deliver time, you have to add the "delivery time" and "shipping time" together for Amazon delivery. Amazon quite misleads you. This CD set was supposed to be a Birthday Present, but it arrived over 2 weeks later... According to the tracking information, it took more than 2 Weeks for them to prepare the set before sending out, which is much longer than the real shipping time. |
